It's been full month. Four, almost 5, weeks. We have hosted the opening event, made 6 extra orders to our suppliers, 20 new products, cleaned the front door 15 times, served 75 coffees... but most important we have made 150 new friends!
The encouraging words have been overwhelming. There are still 1001 things to improve, change and adjust; however all visitors have had kind words and friendly gestures. For those lacking the right words to express it, they gave us their "Oooooh"'s and "Wow!"'s which is as much appreciated.
So far, we have gifts from our shop being sent to New York, Haarlem, Tel Aviv, Beijing, Denver, Groningen, Los Angeles, Monterrey and Amersfoort.
What have been the highlights of these last weeks? Well, definitely the amount of people that will be getting a dog or cat soon. Spring seems to be the inspiring season to bring new members into the household. Kittens, puppies, rescue... you name it. Amsterdam's population is growing with furry beings.
Then, the reactions on-line. The followers have grown exponentially! (Yeah, I know we had a small number of followers to start with) And they have all been very vocal about their thoughts on the shop and concept. You can see some of their posts here below.
What has been the most challenging? Being patient. It's a new brand, a new concept and people need to hear about us. There have been long quiet days, and there have been many "At this moment we don't have that product". We need to give ourselves some time to create a solid assortment, and the customers to understand that we aim to have unique and special products; we can't just have everything. One day, probably, our assortment will cover all the needs of our customers and pets. In the meantime we focus in a few items with excellent quality and mostly unique.
We're also dealing with the website. It's a learning process. It takes time and a lot of knowledge. I must confess that I'm very happy with the result so far. I can't wait to launch the webshop and hear some feedback. I can't wait for the first on-line sales either! That first label, the first package; and then wait for the customer to receive it and share a review.
So, like I said, there's much to be done but also much accomplished. The journey so far has been exciting, scary, great, and absolutely the best decision and I am looking forward to the crazy path where it takes me.
PS: I would like to specially thank Luna for reviewing this text before publishing.
I am a communications professional who loves my dogs very much. I also love drag queens, muscle bears, drinking lots of wine, boating on the Amsterdam canals and my husband. None of that in that order.
